Cycling holidays in Germany are becoming increasingly popular

It is healthy pursuit, kind to the climate and – at least compared with long-haul holidays to exotic destinations – relatively cheap. Cycle touring is becoming increasingly popular in Germany, according to the German Cycling Association (ADFC). Germany certainly has the proper infrastructure and the country boasts more than 75,000 kilometres of well-marked cycle paths. They are popular too and ADFC figures show that in 2007 around 5.6 million Germans went on a cycling holiday lasting several days with overnight stays, while 35 million explored the countryside from the saddle of a bicycle for at least two hours at a stretch.
