A Musical Celebration

On Sunday 6 November, the residence of the German Ambassador was the chosen venue for an evening of musical delight, when the Wellington Friends of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra presented a “Musical Celebration” featuring fourteen members of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Ambassador Thomas Meister and Mrs. Dagmar Meister hosted an evening showcasing a versatile and appealing programme which took the audience on a musical trip through Europe.
The concert began with Beethoven’s Piano Trio Opus 1 No 1 in E flat major and continued with Zoltan Kodály’s Seranade Opus 12, Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber’s Pars VI from Mensa Sonora, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet for Flute and Strings in D Major, Manuel de Falla’s Seven Popular Spanish Songs and Anton Dvorak’s Terzetto op.74 ending with a selection of light classics and Viennese waltzes.

The members of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra were German flautist Birgit Schwab, violinist Anne Löser and viola players Norbert Heuser and Martin Börner as well as violinists Pam Jiang, Dean Major, Vanya Mateeva, Simon Miller, Gregory Squire and Beiji Xue, Viola players Peter Barber, cellists Roger Brown and Sally Pollard and pianist Mary Barber.
The concert was co-ordinated by Laurence Reese and Valerie Rhodes from the Wellington Friends of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Every seat in the residence was taken, and the audience expressed their great appreciation of an outstanding performance.
